Figure 35 x 29 x 66cm, plinth 141 x 95 x 50cm
Francis Upritchard found the inspiration for her graceful figure in an old handbook of yoga poses. The slim form arches in an effortless backbend, eyes closed in concentration or contemplation. Pilotto and De Vos have outfitted her for a watery element in a richly embellished body suit and close-fitting cap in one of their own fabrics, entirely covered in hand-cut vinyl fishscale shapes.
Francis Upritchard and Peter Pilotto already formed the only trio in the line-up, since Peter Pilotto works collaboratively with his design partner Christopher De Vos. They were quick to broaden the collaboration further to include furniture designer Martino Gamper, appropriately the person who had first introduced her to the designers, and who contributed the elegant plinth on which the figure rests. None of the participants strayed from their own medium - sculpture, fashion and furniture - yet their crafts combine in a rich and gorgeous whole.
